Jesus: King of the House

  1. What kind of relationship does verse 12 and 13 envision for husbands and wives? In what ways is it different from the common expectations for marriage in the cultures of Paul’s day?

  2. Kids: When you obey your parents it puts a smile on your King’s face. Talk about how this truth might be able to help you obey your parents when your heart really doesn’t want to.

  3. Verse 21 tells fathers not to provoke their children, lest they become discouraged. Can you sketch out some ways that we as parents provoke our children? Why do we need to Gospel to help us parent (think about this in two ways: how we choose to parent our children and where we draw our strength from)?

  4. How is what Paul writes to slaves and masters in Col 3:21- 4:1 not support for slavery but actually the dismantling of it from the inside?

  5. Since Jesus is King, we should approach our work with integrityperspective, and worship. Using Colossians 3:21-4:1, explain what each of these means.
