Visiting Grace

Visiting a church can be intimidating. Wherever you are in your spiritual journey, it will be our privilege to warmly welcome you and get to know you.

Here are answers to some of the questions that might be running through your mind:

What kind of people attend your church?

We have people of all ages and backgrounds. What unites us is not any particular demographic but a common commitment to know, love, and serve God and others. Chances are you will meet some people a lot like you and others completely different from you.

What should I wear?

There is no dress code. Some people dress up and some come in jeans. You can wear shorts and flip flops if you want (but this is Washington, so expect to be wet and cold). Our priority is not on what you wear but on gathering together to worship God from our hearts.

What is the service like?

The service is a “dialogue” with God that includes things like scripture, singing, prayer, preaching, and partaking in communion. Make sure you pick up a worship bulletin when you come. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Our service is both reverent and relaxed. We take God seriously but not ourselves. He is holy and powerful and should be approached with awe and wonder. At the same time, he is merciful and forgives our sins in Christ, so he knows what we are really like and we don’t have to put on a veneer of Sunday morning spirituality.

How long does the service last?

The service lasts about an hour and 15 minutes. After the service we have a time of fellowship with coffee and refreshments. You are welcome to join us.

What about children?

Parents are welcome to bring their children into the worship service. We are used to coos, cries, and the occasional shriek of terror. There is a cry room next to the sanctuary, as well as a Children’s Lesson for children up to 6th grade (at the discretion of the parents) during the sermon.

Will I have to do anything?

We won’t put any pressure on you. You are not expected to give to the offering, join the church, or come forward to sing a solo. Feel free to participate as much as your conscience allows, or just sit back and observe. We celebrate communion weekly for those who profess the Christian faith. If you are not a Christian or aren’t sure, you can just pass the elements when they are distributed.

Again, we are glad you found us. We hope you will visit our church family so we can get to know you better!
