Discussion questions:
1. In vv. 15-17 discuss Jesus’ work in creation. What does it mean that creation is in/from him, through him, and to him? Of all the phrases in these verses, which one strikes you most and why?
2. In vv. 18-20 discuss Jesus’ work in redemption. Why does Paul say that Jesus has been *made* preeminent? How does Jesus mend the great tear in the fabric of the universe caused by sin and rebellion?
3. What implication we should draw from the fact that Jesus is Lord of both creation and redemption? Discuss how this passage opposes dualism. Name some areas where you might be dividing your life into sacred/secular or physical/spiritual containers.
4. Nouwen discusses how we often view our bodies as “little more than an unlimited source of pleasure or an unceasing source of pain.” What does it mean for you today that, because of Christ’s lordship as creator and redeemer, the body is part of your life with God?
